Bands

Ann Beretta

A whole two years before Lucero had ever donned their first checked shirt there was Ann Beretta. Along with fellow Richmond, VA residents Avail they played melodic punk with that now oh so fashionable country edge. Post Inquisition and pre Sixer, file somewhere inbetween Hot Water Music, Bruce Springsteen and Avail

Atomgevitter

Glasgow's Atomgevitter are one of the few bands in Scotland actually singing in Gaelic. Runrig I might hear you say? Yes well this band are actually great. Slamming thrash with perhaps a slight youthcrew influence. Hey they have songs about Alan Moore what more can you want?

Dead Inside

Hate fuelled hardcore, the result of listening to too much Black Flag, Blast and the whole Dischord back catalogue. Members of Hard to Swallow, Broccoli, Annalise and Comet Gain! Paul went on to be in Bullet Union, Scott to Sedaced and Kev to a plethora of bands including Wives of Seth and most recently Raging Speedhorn

The Epidemic

The Epidemic was the brain child of one Andy Dixon. Andy first started playing in d.b.s at age twelve in 1992. Since then he went on to play in Red Light Sting and set up Ache Records (The initial home of Hot Hot Heat and Death From Above). In this guise he performs beautiful indie rock songs with heavy electronic tendancies. The closest comparison would have to be Matmos. Since cutting his teeth with The Epidemic he has released several albums as The Secret Mommy.

Filthpact

Hailing from Aberdeen this Scottish band play what they termed 'Crust Violence'. Harsh screamed vocals one minute, D-Beat the next and ending up with Grind. Energy and distortion in equal measures!

Fuckuismyname

So what's with the name huh? My guess was it was a quote from the brilliant Glengarry Glen Ross although your guess is as good as mine. If you never caught them on their tour with Transistor Transistor in the UK then you missed out on their Post Punk Noise. Germanys answer to Les Savy Fav, Monorchid or Black Cat 13.

Hey Colossus

When your aim in life is to make 'Subterranean Rumblings Of Sludgy Rock Using Three Guitars' you know life is going to be loud. Hey Colossus initially consisted of members of Stanton, I'm Being Good, Econoline and Yeast although after line up changes they now have the added bonus of a person dedicated just to noise effects! Their crushingly loud music encompasses Black Sabbath, Melvins, Can and Neurosis into a wondrous wall of sound.

JR Ewing

Now defunct Norweigan hardcore, from the land that brought us Turbonegro. Angular guitars and rockin' riffs reminiscent of Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes or At the Drive-In. If the state of San Diego had been relocated to Norway!

The Kitchen

Initally the bedroom dabblings of one Amanda Mackinnon and Ryan Seagrist, members of Bis and Discount respectively. Nestling somewhere among the vocal stylings of Sleater Kinney, the synths of ESG and the punk ethic of the X-Ray Spex

Rameses III

South London's Rameses III have found themselves a little home nestling somewhere in-between English Folk and Acoustic Americana. Their Wakusei release brings to mind the sounds of Mark Eitzel and Mark Kozelek and were among their first outputted recordings. More recently the band have been working alongside the likes of Jack Rose, Christina Carter, David Grubbs, Fursaxa and The Album Leaf. Rameses III natural progression after this single was one into creating wondrous, ethereal droning soundscapes.

Soon the Darkness

Short lived London "Screamo meets Joy Division" band whose members went on to appear in Among The Missing and Narwhal. They didn't really fit in with much of what was going on in the UK at the time but played a hell of a lot of the hardcore shows going on anyway!

Discography: Cut Through The Cross Section 7" | Parade Of Enemies Split 7" | Discography 2CDr

This Machine Kills

Post Stratego emotional hardcore featuring Dim Mak head honcho Steve Aoki who had been playing in Esperanza and is now DJing as Kid Millionaire. They mixed up traditional early 90s hardcore like Merel or Iconoclast with more modern, at the time, screamed vocals.

Titan

Brooklyn based kraut, psychedelic progressive stoner rock freakouts that will help expand and improve your mind. They have been fortunate enough to share a stage with the likes of Zombi, Boris, Comets on Fire, Blue Cheer, Witch and Lightning Bolt.

Trencher

Surely the most prolific casio grindcore band in the whole World. They've had more split 5"s than most people have had hot dinners. There was a time when you simply couldn't attend a hardcore show in London without them playing it. Fuck Big Brother it's Trencher you'd better watch out for.
